Six new coffees are being released by Stumptown's Brooklyn roastery this coming week. We'll be getting our next shipment on Thursday. Two new ones from Intelligentsia will be in the week after. Six of these eight will be East African.
Meantime, a couple of Kenyans are being discontinued. We've got one bag of Kangocho and a few of the Githima. The Ethiopia Sidama is already gone and won't be replaced. Same with the Rwanda Vunga. We think there's a couple of weeks of availability left for the Ethiopia Mordecofe Natural, but that could change. We're also dropping the Guatemala Finca El Injerto Bourbon to make room for something else.
If you like any of these coffees, jump on them this weekend as they won't be around next weekend (except maybe the Mordecofe).
As far as new coffees, this is gonna be tough to decide what to carry - simply too many choices at once. We're trying to stay at 4-5 single origins so we don't overwhelm staff or customers. So we're looking to carry as many distinctly different profiles as those 4-5 coffees allow.
Current favorites that remain:
- Brazil Agua Preta (milk chocolate/pecan, soft acidity, medium body)
- Indonesia Gajah Aceh (blackberry/plum, earthy, caramel, medium acidity, medium-full body)
- Colombia El Jordan (warm spices, berries, sweet, citrus acidity, medium body)
Add in the Black Cat, House Blend, Hairbender, Trapichitos, organic decaf and french roast, and that leaves two spots for new coffees.
Here's what we've got to choose from:
- Colombia Las Vegas (orange zest, cinnamon, creamy and sweet, medium body)
- Peru La Quebrada (sugar, cocoa, citrus, plum, lemon, chamomile, medium body)
- Burundi Baway (violet, raisin, plum, orange zest, syrupy, full body)
- Burundi Kinyovu (peach, white grape, brown sugar, full body)
- Kenya Gatomboya (creamy apricot, rhubarb, fruit punch, chocolate, full body)
- Rwanda Muyongwe (maple, florals, melon, honey, viscous)
If we were to pick two to round out and fit in with our current offerings, they'd probably be the Burundi Baway and the Kenya Gatomboya, with the Rwanda Muyongwe close behind. Not that any of these would be bad choices, but we think adding two full bodied coffees would better complement the current coffees which are all somewhat lighter in character.
The following week Intelligentsia comes out with new crop Rwanda Zirikana and Burundi Izikeri. So it's going to get competitive for shelf space.
We order from both roasters on Monday morning. So think about it over the weekend and let us know which two coffees you'd like us to add (or three, but you have to tell us which one should go).
P.S. For those of you who enjoy a straight shot, we've got a bag of Ritual Evil Twin we'll be swapping into one of the Mazzers tomorrow. It's courtesy of Voluto Coffee and was roasted Monday. Frank will be dialing it in first thing Saturday morning.
Rich - That one you had me try Saturday was delicious. Had a nutty taste t it and a nice citrus finish.
