Hold us to 'em. Hopefully these will all happen sooner than later in 2010.
1. A new tea program, including development of "tea sommeliers", new brewers/serviceware and a programmable water tower for more accurate brewing of green, white and oolong teas that require cooler brew water.
2. An in-house certification program, with testing on botanicals, espresso, drip, tea and operations/maintenance.
3. A facelift. Some new paint, a shuffling around of displays and seating (and somehow getting new life out of the ancient floorboards!)
4. More customer education events, ideally getting back to at least our former frequency of once a month. These will include coffee and tea tastings (and yes, a cupping or two), home brewing and home barista classes.
5. More consistency of drinks and service from all baristas while allowing for individual styles in espresso preparation and preferences dictated by our barista's palates.
That's the short list of things that completely under our control and achieveable.
There's another internal list of things we'd like to get done involving constiuencies beyond our four walls, thus are things we can't completely control. These involve local community, students, barista community and sustainable agriculture. We're hoping we can get through that list as well before year-end. But rather than discuss them here, we'll talk about those items as they happen.
All that and Rich says he'll try not to use as many bad words while working in the kitchen. Or at least keep his voice down ;-)
