Melinda Out, Adam In

Melinda's last shift is today.  She's going home to Chicago, hopefully to a job with Intelligentsia or Metropolis or another good shop out that way.  Says if everyone keeps looking at her, she's going to cry.

Melinda was always the "quiet one" here, but once she used to being out of corporate coffee (Gloria Jeans), she proved to have a wicked sense of humor and excellent barista skills.  She's also an amazing photographer and is fluent in Spanish.   We hope to see her do a travelogue at a coffee plantation someday.  She will be missed.

Meantime, Adam started yesterday.  He's a former Californian and bartender, most recently at Embury.  We look forward to having him step up and fill Melinda's shoes. Forget we said anything. If you're gonna call off your first weekend, don't bother applying.

  • Peets (Berkeley/SF)
    Alfred Peet is often called "the grandfather of the specialty coffee industry". Started in 1966, Peets continues to have a loyal following, despite tons of regional competition.
  • George Howell's Terroir (Boston)
    George's Coffee Connection was specialty coffee in New England for years. Then he sold out to the dark empire. Now he's back with Terroir, identifying and promoting single source coffees. No stores yet, only whole bean sales.
  • The Roasterie (Kansas City)
    Reginal powerhouse coffee buyer, roaster, trainer and local retail chain in KC, Missouri.
  • Ninth St. Espresso (NYC)
