Went down to 21st Street yesterday to replace some Black Cat we borrowed from Luke & Alexis last week when we were running short.
There, on the sidewalk, was Alexis with a couple of tables of Steelers shirts and stuff. And doing a brisk business, despite the fact there seemed to be 75 other stands with Steelers stuff between Penn and Smallman.
And here we thought everybody already owned their fill of Steeler merchandise. We suppose this is the one brand in the entire world that breaks every known economic theory on supply/demand and price elasticity.
When I first moved here in 2002, Melanie bought me - a lifetime Jets fan - a Kordell Stewart jersey. I wore it once and within a week Tommy Maddox became the starting QB. So you don't want me wearing the jersey of any key player.
I've never been of the camp that you have to wear team colors (and spend a fortune doing it) to prove your worth as a fan. Any logowear I have was given as a gift. The only thing I've bought while here were a couple of Terrible Towels.
Until yesterday. While Melanie was nice and toasty inside getting a cup of Clovered El Mirador, I was standing outside in the wind and snow, holding Aldo's leash. My ears were were freezing up, so.I splurged on $5 for a ski headband. It was worth every penny.
