This Saturday's free public coffee cupping will feature two things we haven't yet done in a public cupping. And there are still seats available!
First will be a triangulation exercise. This is a common exercise for professional cuppers, and one that is necessary to pass in order to achieve Q-grader status. In this exercise, we will have you cup three coffees from a similar region. Two will be the same, one will be different. Your goal is to identify the one that's different.
Additionally, we'll be tasting our in-house roasted Uganda Bugisu as roasted "correctly" as well as a two cups brewed with various levels of "defects". One cup will be defect-free, a second will have ~5% defects, the third more than 25% defects. This might not be the most pleasant experience, but it will demonstrate how defective beans can ruin a cup of otherwise good coffee. We'll also taste the Bugisu as a single origin espresso.
To reserve your spot at the cupping table, send an email or tell your barista to sign you up. The cupping will be at 1pm this Saturday, September 20.
