Aldo Coffee will host three benefit performances by Mt. Lebo High students over the next six weeks: this Friday 4/4, then again on 4/18 and 5/9. Performances will feature a student guitarist and will begin at 8pm each of the three nights.
We hope you will support our local students in this effort.
The performances are to benefit "Schools for Schools", a program organized by Invisible Children where schools in wealthier countries help schools in Northern Uganda, which has been ravaged by armed conflict for decades. A two-minute video explaining the program makes a strong case for why this effort is worthy of your contributions.
The efforts of Mt. Lebanon High School students on behalf of Schools for Schools are going to Sir Samuel Baker Secondary School in Uganda to help build a perimeter wall that is estimated to cost $64,000. To date the students have raised more than $13,000 for the project.
Since we opened our doors 40 months ago, we've been committed to helping people in coffee-growing countries where we can through annual contributions to CoffeeKids as well as fundraisers for Bikes to Rwanda and other charities. While not directly related to coffee, the Northeastern Uganda area near the Kenyan border is a region with promise of good Arabica beans, notably from the Bugisu region.
We're hoping to locate some green Ugandan Bugisu coffee that we can roast up for this event and sell by the cup and 1/2 lb bags to help the cause.
The fall and winter are a busy times of the year for everyone, especially for those involved in nonprofit and charity fundraising. Fundraisers often have a holiday theme and people are asked, at this time of year, to give to others who are less fortunate.
