Colin Sander is on his way to Hollywood. Well, not yet, he's got college first. He'll be attending film school in LA this fall.
And why not. Looks like he's got the talent to make it in Tinseltown.
As part of a class project, Colin premiered "Thieves and Criminals", a 36-minute film on rollerblading, mostly shot here in Pittsburgh with additional scences shot in the OC with his brother, who's already attending film school in LA.
Colin's interest right now is in editing, but you can see he's got the makings of a future director.
We closed last night at 9pm for the screening. About 45 classmates and friends jammed the place and applauded when the bladers on screen navigated particularly difficult maneuvers on guardrails, curbs, retaining walls and whatever else struck their fancy.
Any movie about blading invariably includes some outtakes - even accomplished skaters take their share of spills. And Colin captured the pain of his "stars" in a segment called "Wrecked". Just watching some of the guys get "nutted" gave Rich sympathetic pains.
The film was produced, directed and mostly shot by Colin, who also stars along with his brother Cheech and friends Matt Compton, Mike Koliner, Alex Clarey and Jimi Plake.
We don't have Colin's contact info (didn't see it on his Kounter Kulture site) but he's got a DVD of TAC for purchase if you're interested.
Maybe he'll post here with info on how to get a copy.
Meantime, you can see a trailer for TAC on this site.
We thank Colin, his parents and the teacher who recommend
choosing us for the screening and we wish him the best of success in his future moviemaking.
And apologies for the fuzzy photos, but hopefully you get the sense that it was a great night for Colin, family and friends.
